Thanks for considering us. This page will give you an idea of
what you can expect on your first visit to our church.
We are located in south Calgary on Heritage Drive between MacLeod Trail and
Elbow Drive. We are on the south side of the street next door to the YMCA.
Parking is available in our lot, the YMCA and the neighbourhood streets. If you
are parking at the Y, please park on the tennis court half of their lot only,
out of consideration for the Y patrons. For more detail on your parking
options, look at "Parking" under the "Info" menu above. Sunday worship is at
9:30 and 11:15 AM. The services are identical.
If you walk in through our front doors you will see our Welcome Desk. It is
staffed every Sunday with people who are there to answer your questions and
provide directions. Feel free to use them. They can also provide you with
printed info on our congregation as well as The Presbyterian Church in Canada.
The Sanctuary is to your left and the Lounge (with coat racks and washrooms) are
to your right.
We have a Nursery for children up to three years old. Pass through the lounge
to the end of the corridor to find it. Church School for children can be found
upstairs and downstairs, depending on the child's age. Ask at the Welcome Desk
for help, and we will find someone to help you find the right place for your
children before the service begins. Children join us for the beginning of our
worship service and head out to their Church School time part way through the
service.
As you enter our Sanctuary greeters will provide you with a bulletin. It has
the order of worship, some helpful notes for visitors, as well as announcements
about the upcoming life of our church. Receivers for our hard-of-hearing
system as well as large print versions of our hymnbook can be obtained from the
ushers. Feel free to sit wherever you wish. While you wait for the service to
begin, take a quick look at the worship order. An asterisk before something in
the order indicates when we stand. Don't worry: we will walk you through the
service so you don't need to follow the bulletin. Chimes will sound to announce
that worship is about to begin. The congregation stands when they hear the
chimes for the processing in of the Bible.
Fairly early on in the service we have a time for children. Children up to
about age 10 or so feel comfortable about coming forward and sitting with the
minister for this time. It's meant to be a fun and engaging learning time. We
close this time with a brief prayer that the children (and the whole
congregation) say with the minister. After this, the children go out to their
Church School classes. If you wish you can accompany your child to their class
and even sit in on it to see what they do.
After the sermon we collect an offering. Do not feel like you have to
contribute as a visitor. Once you decide to make us your church home you can
consider how you contribute to the life of your new church. If you wish to make
yourself known to us, do take the visitor's card from the rack at your pew and
fill it out. You can leave this on the offering plate or give it to an usher. We
would be happy to talk to you about the life of our congregation.
We have a social time in the lounge after each worship service. Please join
us there for coffee and juice.
