Aug 31, 2025 - Somewhere Under the Rainbow

Aug 31, 2025 - Somewhere Under the Rainbow

Rev. Dr. Jean Morris

The sermon will focus on the story of God and Noah.  Rather than a light-hearted tale about cute critters in a boat, this is a foundational story about the very heart of God and God's relationship with all creation.  The relationship is marked forever by the sign of the rainbow.

The Stucco Project (to repair Flicker damage) - Summer 2025

The internet will tell you there are five fun facts about Flickers.  The office staff will tell you that fun fact number 3 ISN’T so much fun.  Fun fact number 3:  Their drumming can be heard from far away!

Well, drum away they did… for quite a few years now, doing damage to the stucco on our building.  In order to mitigate further damage, this summer the Facilities Team (and friends) took on the ‘Stucco Project’, which was no small feat!!!  Some of you may remember that we lost power to the building for a period of time.
This required volunteers to do ‘walk throughs of the building’ so that our insurance coverage wasn’t at risk.
Huge thanks to the following people for going ‘above and beyond’ to help out.  If your name is missing, you were still appreciated - and sorry for the omission!   Kudos to Alfred MacRae, Brent Werle, Craig Murray, David Kurtz, Dolly Forcade, Fleming Nielsen, Laurie McKay, Mark Rowe, Matt Nolette, Sean Pepper, Steven Henrichsen, and Tom McIntyre.  We could not have completed this project without your help.  Sean Pepper donated his time and talents by providing scaffolding for this project.  Which included loading, setting up, taking down, and more loading onto his truck!
We are so very grateful to you, Sean.
As a point of interest, the company who completed the work told Dolly that over 400 holes were repaired on our stucco - more than ANY they’ve ever seen on ANY building!   Our stucco is now coated with a resistant stucco guaranteed for 10 years.
We’re looking forward to a silent summer in 2026!

Pride Parade - Sunday, August 31

The Rainbow Team invites you to attend the Calgary Pride Parade on Sunday, August 31.  Come celebrate Pride together and have ‘church on the road’ (regular worship service is still happening at STAC at 10:00 am).  Come as you are, or dressed in pride colours to celebrate as a community.  We will meet at the Heritage C-Train station at 10:00am to travel downtown by train together. Please RSVP to rainbowteam@standrewscalgary.ca.  We will then provide contact information for the day of the parade.

Adults like (and need) to learn too!

Adults like (and need) to learn too!

Our study on James will start Sunday, September 14th at 11:00 am in Trinity Hall

What do theologians tell us about learning?  Barbara Brown Taylor wrote a book called “Learning to Walk in the Dark.”  N.T. Wright challenges us to learn about “Jesus Teaching Agenda.”   Frederick Beuchner says that “To be wise is to be eternally curious”.
Well, if you are eternally curious, consider joining a group of eager learners Sunday mornings after worship as we resume our Adult Bible Study this fall.  BIll Judd, our fearless leader, has chosen a study based on the book of James called “JAMES ~ What You Do Matters”.
Please see Debby Dorcas in the Lounge this Sunday (Aug 31) or Bill Judd the following Sunday (Sep 7) to have a look at the book to see if you would like to have a copy ordered for you.  If you prefer not to buy the book, you can still fully participate in the study!  We’ll be sending out weekly emails with a suggestion of which passages to read in James for the upcoming week, along with some questions to think about.that we’ll be discussing each Sunday morning.  And we’ll be watching a video together each Sunday narrated by the author, Margaret Feinberg.
We are all on this journey of discovery together, and what we have found over the years is that we learn not only from the study, but from each other.  Our study on James will start Sunday, September 14th at 11:00 am in Trinity Hall.    Why not join us and learn together?

Want to join St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church?

Want to join St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church?

Want to be baptised into the Family of Followers of Jesus?

Membership is a tricky concept in the church.  Who is a member?  Those who attend?  Those who donate?  Those who came as a child 30 years ago?  Membership is a commitment to show up and participate in the active life of the congregation through time, talent and money.  A "regular attender" might not attend every week as in the past, as some people have to work on Sunday, have family commitments, and are experiencing transitions.
YOU DECIDE, by choosing to BE BAPTISED.
If baptised as an infant,  you become a member by PROFESSION OF FAITH, answering the questions asked of your parents for yourself.
If you are a member elsewhere but have moved,
we can TRANSFER YOUR MEMBERSHIP.
Regardless, you are welcome here at St. Andrew's.
May God bless you with a sense of belonging and an opportunity to contribute as part of this community of faith.
If you would like to join us as a member, or if you desire to be baptised or to have your children baptised, please contact the office or speak with me.

The Kidney Foundation wants the stuff you don’t!!

As you start to look at summer and fall clothes, we have a REALLY easy way for you to make room in your closets for the things you  actually wear.  Bring the clothes that you DIDN’T wear this summer, and that you know you WON’T wear this fall, to St. Andrew’s!!   From (Monday) SEPTEMBER 15 to (Monday) SEPTEMBER 22 we’ll be collecting clothes, shoes, and boots for the Kidney Foundation.  They will transform your used clothing into kidney research and programs that help fight kidney disease.
One more way we can be ‘Woven into the neighbourhood’.
