The Reading from Matthew is about Jesus - Calling to Peter to step out of the security of the boat and walk to him – Peter stepped out, but he got scared and he called out to Jesus for help. Perhaps we are able to get out of the boat, ... but will our faith take us farther in our relationship with Jesus?

During the summer, some groups take a break from normal activities. And some groups don’t.
At Claire House, St. Andrew’s volunteers continue to meet with residents on Thursday mornings for coffee, breakfast, and community building most weeks. Bill Judd conveyed that this summer their gardening efforts are starting to yield rewards in colourful flowers in the garden at the entryway, and actual produce - raspberries now, beans and tomatoes later, in the veggie garden in the back yard.
Together, this group of friends are growing more than flowers and produce - they are growing life together with God - and each other.

This summer there is MUCH going on in and around our building. The following dates are if everything goes as planned. Information will be provided as needed. We suggest calling the office if you need access to a potentially affected space.

Friday August 7 to Saturday August 22 – flat roof will be replaced. There will be dumpsters on site and parts of the parking lot will be blocked off. Access via the back door will be restricted.

Monday August 10 to Friday August 14 – Floors in Trinity Hall, Inner Hall and Upper Room will be stripped and waxed. Access to these rooms will be restricted, as well, Karl English Lounge will be used by Haddon Group, so no access to that area.

Tuesday August 25 to Sunday August 30 – flooring is being replaced in the CE wing. Trinity Hall and the CE wing will be affected by this work.

On August 23, come and enjoy farm fresh corn, tasty burgers, and hot dogs. The Men’s Group is hosting this event for the second consecutive year, and we hope to have some interesting entertainment. So come join us Sunday, August 23 immediately after worship and be part of this exciting event! As usual, a freewill offering will be taken to offset costs. Please add your names to the sign-up sheet in the Foyer so we know how many to prepare for!

Neechi Mart is an Indigenous led program led by Kate Webb-Harris and Willy Anderson. Kate and Willy were introduced to St. Andrew’s through Rev. Layne Kilbreath and Bill Judd. St. Andrew’s began hosting Neechi Mart in February 2025. Most Wednesdays, people come to shop at the food mart, enjoy a community lunch, and learn cultural crafts. St. Andrew’s offers space to participate in smudge and prayer led by a knowledge carrier, and a safe place for people who are hungry and hurting to find community. The need has grown. On July 15th, 2026 there were 10 volunteers supporting 58 shoppers (shopping for 16 elders/seniors, 57 children, and 81 adults). 77 lunches were served. 289 people were supported through Neechi-Mart on that day alone.

As summer provides a much needed break from ‘regular’ activities, we’d love it if you would bring out your ‘inner photographer’, and take some pictures of your summer activities, then share them with us in our September ConnXions.

September 13th will be an exciting service for ALL of us at St. Andrew’s, whether you are part of our morning (English) or afternoon (Nuer) worshipping congregations. Our youth and their leaders will lead worship as they share their experiences at Collective (youth conference in Ontario) this summer. Mark your calendars for a change for BOTH our morning and afternoon worship services, as we will be having ONE JOINT SERVICE AT 12:00 NOON, followed by a pot luck feast in Trinity Hall. We know the fall is a ‘ways off’, but we wanted to make sure we give lots of notice about the change in time!

The Presbyterian Church in Canada has made a commitment to continue listening and learning from Indigenous people, leaders, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, welcoming and engaging voices from both within and beyond The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Together, we now listen and learn about smudging.
Alana Manybears taught us during the Smudge Kit Making event at St. Andrew's that smudging strengthens prayer. When we stand before the smudge, we wave our hands from the smoke to our head, arms, legs, etc. ending with the heart and we pray in our own language.
I have confirmed with a number of knowledge carriers that smudging is similar to the Biblical and ancient practice of burning incense to purify and sanctify both the space and those participating in prayer to enhance our prayers and connection with God.

On August 27,  Alphonse Nepoose will be sharing his experiences in residential school and talking about reconciliation actions. Everyone is invited. This event will be held at Kingsland Community Hall, August 27th between 6:00 - 8:30 pm.

In order to raise awareness of the needs of Indigenous Peoples, every 9 August commemorates the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, chosen in recognition of the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations held in Geneva in 1982.
There are an estimated 476 million Indigenous Peoples in the world living across 90 countries. They make up less than 6 per cent of the world's population, but account for at least 15 per cent of the poorest. They speak an overwhelming majority of the world’s estimated 7,000 languages and represent 5,000 different cultures.
Indigenous Peoples are inheritors and practitioners of unique cultures and ways of relating to people and the environment.

This service offers an opportunity to stand together, make support visible, and affirm that 2SLGBTQIA+ people are valued, celebrated, and deserving of safety, dignity, and belonging.
This annual gathering brings together people from across Calgary’s diverse faith communities, community organizations, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities for an evening of reflection, celebration, solidarity, and hope.
