St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
LinX Email for February 6, 2025
February 9, 2025 - The answer is ‘Yes’

February 9, 2025 - The answer is ‘Yes’

Rev. Laurie McKay

Today we hear three call narratives:  Isaiah, Peter and Paul.  They all feel unworthy, and yet, by God’s grace, they have the courage to say “yes”.  Do you feel unworthy?  Can God use you for a higher purpose?  The answer is “yes”.

We’re a BUSY place!

We’re a BUSY place!

Unless you are in the building during the week, you may not know just how busy this building is!!  We are grateful for all the work we are able to do, the groups we are able to support, and the many people who come through our doors.
With so much going on, the office staff are SO GRATEFUL to Lynn Judd and her ‘recruits’ who magically change our foyer and Sanctuary surroundings to reflect the many different church ‘seasons’;  to Pat & Duane Tritter, who come in every Wednesday and do ‘odd jobs’, to Flemming Nielsen who comes on Mondays to do ‘odd jobs’, to Sheri Coutts who stops by to see if there are any ‘odd jobs’ after her Brown Bagging 4 Calgary Kids work
~ and YES, there are THAT MANY odd jobs that need doing!!
So, SO many others are here in the building during the week as well ~  doing volunteer work with groups and teams.  Hopefully we’ll be able to highlight them another time.
But for now… know that you, too, are appreciated!!
I  know people often say - ‘We couldn’t do this without your help.’
WE REALLY COULDN’T!

Knitting and Crocheting

Knitting and Crocheting

The initial meeting of knitters and crocheters at Claire House on Monday went very well.  Thank you to all the ladies who attended the Meet & Greet.  There is still an opportunity for more people to participate in this project.  They are also looking for yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks and wool.  If you are interested in participating or have supplies you would like to donate, please contact Pat Tritter at duanepat@icloud.com or call 403-271-6876.

Clothing Drive ~ women and men’s warm weather clothing and other items needed now!!

Clothing Drive ~ women and men’s warm weather clothing and other items needed now!!

Our Clothing Drive is well under way!!  The Men’s group (who are sponsoring this initiative) has already done a delivery downtown to make room for more of your donations!   Just a reminder that we ALL get cold - so the AFC is looking for both men AND women’s clothing!  Have a look in your closet and see if you have items that you are ready to donate to someone in need.  Terry can’t be the ONLY one who has pants he’s only worn once!!!!  The following is a reminder of the list of items that are needed:

  • Blankets, touques, mitts/gloves, shirts/sweaters, socks, coats, pants, sleeping bags, backpacks, new underwear

There are 2 boxes - one in the Foyer, and one in the Lounge where you can place your donations.  Thank you for your continued support!!

Keep active, in body, mind, and spirit. That way, God will find you busy.

Keep active, in body, mind, and spirit. That way, God will find you busy.

When the weather outside turns frightful, we can still find delightful routines to remain active. Try googling “Mall walking, Calgary” and you will come up with dozens of videos that will walk you through, step by step, most of Calgary’s malls. Many malls are happy to see early-morning walkers, recognizing that window-shoppers often will stay and do some real shopping—or maybe just have coffee or a snack. St. Andrew’s just started the ‘Mall Mavericks’ group. For further information and to register, please contact Alice Williams at 403-281-4247 or alicemwilliams@shaw.ca
If mall-walking isn’t your thing, perhaps Heritage Seniors is something you would like to try. They offer exercise programs, guest speakers and catered lunches. For a current schedule of activities, click here
Or how about aquacise? Calgary offers dozens of classes all over the city. Check them out here.

Caregivers Seminar ~ ALL ARE WELCOME!!

Caregivers Seminar ~ ALL ARE WELCOME!!

Saturday, Feb 8 ~ 9:30 – 12:00, followed by lunch ~ Trinity Hall

Assuming responsibility for the care of another person is one of the most common characteristics of the sandwich generation. If you care for someone in your family (“care” meaning everything from helping with physical care to helping with financial decisions and/or property, to emotional support), or if you know of a friend in the same boat, an upcoming seminar at the church is tailor-made for you. St. Andrew’s will be hosting a Caregivers Seminar, presented by Caregivers Alberta. The speaker is Karen Cuthbertson, MSc, Manager, Support Services.

The focus will be:
1. What is a caregiver and why does it matter
2. Signs of stress and burnout
3. Self-care/self-compassion
4. Spiritual well-being
5. Finding resources

Please register by Jan 30
and please let us know if you plan to stay for lunch:
