St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
LinX Email for April 2, 2025
April 6, 2025 - Extravagant Love

April 6, 2025 - Extravagant Love

Rev. Laurie McKay

The challenge of the Scripture today is to see the value over the cost of love.  Mary anoints Jesus' feet.  Judas grumbles about the cost.  Extravagant love weighs the cost and the value of our actions.  Extravagant love overcomes the deficit budget of the world
and our lives.

Grateful Thankful Blessed

Grateful Thankful Blessed

This week we’d like to do a ‘shout out’ to the Men’s Group.  I don’t know if people have been noticing, but this group has been giving ‘participACTION’ real meaning!!
Whether it’s organizing a clothing drive for the people who are in need downtown ~ to providing delicious crepes and fellowship before our Ash Wednesday service ~ we are so grateful for their enthusiasm, leadership, and for the way they help us

As you read over our April/May 2025 ConnXions, please note the following correction:

Page 6 – Finance Team Report

The 5th paragraph should read:    Our congregation has an enviable record of meeting challenges and we believe this one will also be met.  One example of how this is achievable is if our 200 core donors each gave an extra $1 per day (day, not week) for 2 years.  For some, this is very doable and you might, in fact, be able to increase your gift to help out those who may find this too challenging.

“Babies are such a nice way to start people.”

Shona and Carl Vandrasco are excited to be welcoming a baby girl into their family.  St. Andrew’s is pretty excited too!!

To help us celebrate this wonderful event:

  • ALL ladies of the congregation (youth too) are invited to attend a baby shower
  • When? Sunday, April 6th @ 2pm – KE Lounge
  • Hosts: Stephanie Werle & Debby Dorcas
  • We’ll have a few treats and a fun time as we celebrate together!!

If you would like to contribute to a ‘money gift’ for those "expensive first time baby-buys", please reach out to Debby.  And if you’re able to attend, please call the church office at 403-255-0001 before end of day Thursday, April 3rd to get ‘added to the list’.
Hope you can join us!!!

Are You Able to Provide a Gift Card for One of Our Post Secondary Students?

Are You Able to Provide a Gift Card for One of Our Post Secondary Students?

It is spring again already and time for the Faith Formation Team to arrange a wee gift  for each of our post secondary students for their final set of exams this  school year. We like to let our St. Andrew’s students know they are being thought of and that we hold them in our prayers. We are looking for families able to assist one student by purchasing a $25 gift card i.e. Tim Horton’s, Subway, Indigo, etc. You would mail the gift card with a caring message to a student, whose name and address will be provided to you. Our students are most grateful for the gift and encouragement!  If you are able to help, please connect with Rhonda Wishart at Rhonda.wishart@icloud.com  or 403-614-9924 to be provided the name and address of a student.
Thank you to all past and current participants!
~ Rhonda

Do You Want To Help Out Neighbourhood Families?

Do You Want To Help Out Neighbourhood Families?

A resident at Claire House last week mused about how helpful it would be for families if a BIKE EXCHANGE was held in the neighbourhood. As kids grow, smaller bikes have to be replaced by bigger bikes. Could St. Andrew's host and  facilitate a day where that can happen?  Perhaps later this spring? If you think this is a cool idea to help families in Haysboro and Kingsland, and have a bit of time, we are looking for a few early volunteers to get the organization in place to do just that. If you'd like to be part of the planning team for this, please email Peter Coutts at peter@coutts.name or talk to him on Sunday!  Or call 403.589.9081.
Thanks!  ~ Peter Coutts

Lenten Devotional Guide from St. Andrew’s Hall in Vancouver

St. Andrew’s Hall is pleased to share a free, downloadable Lenten Devotional Guide.  Each day, participants are invited to read a specific scripture and share a reflection and prayer from a member of our community – students, staff, faculty, board members and alumni.
This year, St. Andrew’s Hall marks 70 years of our ministry of educating and equipping missional leaders through teaching, hospitality and witness for Christ’s church of tomorrow, today.  We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with congregations across the PCC as together, we seek to share and show the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in God’s beautiful, yet troubled world.
Many blessings, Ross
