Rev. Clay Kuhn

We spend much of our adult lives working or as retired persons, but how does our work/retirement fit into God’s greater plans for us and our communities?

Building bonds, Growing Faith

This past week Inge and Craig Murray, along with some of our amazing youth ~ namely Douglas Henrichsen, Braeden Werle and Kaitlyn Werle ~ assembled new furniture for church school classes that begin this coming week.  Through their leadership, Inge and Craig are modeling that we build not only pieces of furniture, but bonds of relationship… of community… as we work together in this place.  We know that when the children enter that classroom on Sunday, they will start a new year of growing their faith in a space that has been ‘freshened up’ by loving and helping hands.   We are ALL grateful!!

Baptism & Membership

Baptism & Membership

Want to join St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church?
Want to be baptised into the Family of Followers of Jesus?
Membership is a tricky concept in the church.  Who is a member?  Those who attend?  Those who donate?  Those who came as a child 30 years ago?  Membership is a commitment to show up and participate in the active life of the congregation through time, talent and money.  A "regular attender" might not attend every week as in the past, as some people have to work on Sunday, have family commitments, and are experiencing transitions.
YOU DECIDE, by choosing to BE BAPTISED.
If baptised as an infant,  you become a member by PROFESSION OF FAITH, answering the questions asked of your parents for yourself.
If you are a member elsewhere but have moved,
we can TRANSFER YOUR MEMBERSHIP.
Regardless, you are welcome here at St. Andrew's.
May God bless you with a sense of belonging and an opportunity to contribute as part of this community of faith.
If you would like to join us as a member, or if you desire to be baptised or to have your children baptised, please contact the office or speak with me.
~  Rev. Laurie

Adults like (need) to learn too!!!

Adults like (need) to learn too!!!

What do theologians tell us about learning?  Barbara Brown Taylor wrote a book called “Learning to Walk in the Dark.”  N.T. Wright challenges us to learn about “Jesus Teaching Agenda.”   Frederick Beuchner says that “To be wise is to be eternally curious”.
Well, if you are eternally curious, consider joining a group of eager learners Sunday mornings after worship as we resume our Adult Bible Study this fall.  BIll Judd, our fearless leader, has chosen a study based on the book of James called “JAMES ~ What You Do Matters”.
Please see Bill Judd Sunday (Sep 7) in the Lounge - he will be happy to answer any questions you might have about the upcoming study.  You have the option to buy the book, OR we’ll be sending out weekly emails with a suggestion of which passages to read in James for the upcoming week, along with some questions to think about that we’ll be discussing each Sunday morning.  And we’ll be watching a video together each Sunday narrated by the author, Margaret Feinberg.
We are all on this journey of discovery together, and what we have found over the years is that we learn not only from the study, but from each other.  Our study on James will start Sunday, September 14th at 11:00 am in Trinity Hall.    Why not join us and learn together?

MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying)

MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying)

Compassionate Choices at End of Life - SEP 30 @ 7:00 pm - KE Lounge

It is likely that you, a loved one, or someone you know has been directly affected by MAiD. We would like to help people make informed, compassionate choices as they or their loved ones consider end-of-life decisions—or live in the aftermath of those who have undertaken a MAiD procedure.
We will gather not to debate, but to discern and broaden our understanding. MAiD invites us into a space where compassion, autonomy, suffering and ethics intersect.
Please register by signing up in the Foyer, calling the church office at 403.255.0001, or emailing office@standrewscalgary.ca

The Kidney Foundation wants the stuff you don’t!!

As you start to look at summer and fall clothes, we have a REALLY easy way for you to make room in your closets for the things you  actually wear.  Bring the clothes that you DIDN’T wear this summer, and that you know you WON’T wear this fall, to St. Andrew’s!!   From (Monday) SEPTEMBER 15 to (Monday) SEPTEMBER 22 we’ll be collecting clothes, shoes, and boots for the Kidney Foundation.  They will transform your used clothing into kidney research and programs that help fight kidney disease.  One more way we can be ‘Woven into the neighbourhood’.
