February 8, 2026 - Get Salty!

- Rev. Laurie McKay

We have known people who are “Salt of the earth” and have seen how they warm our heart and set things right with just a sprinkle of their time and attention.  Together, salty people bring justice, compassion, and community that dances with the Spirit.  So let’s get SALTY!

A cookie is a smile on a plate

On Sunday morning Feb 1, there were lots of smiles here at St. Andrew’s. We received the following note from our youth this week:
 “
Thank you St. Andrew’s for your generous support of our first fundraising bake sale for Collective 2026 happening in August for high school youth and leaders. The next bake sale will be Sunday, Mar 1.”
Deanne Barrett, for St. Andrew’s Youth

Our next meeting will be on Feb 10th

Our next meeting will be on Feb 10th

At our next meeting, we’ll welcome a speaker from Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre. The purpose of this organization as stated on their website is “… to ensure children, youth, and families impacted by child abuse receive the support they need to heal; to hold offenders accountable; and to build communities where everyone plays a role in preventing abuse so that all children and youth are safe.” We invite you to join us in learning about the critical work of this group. Our meeting begins with tea and snacks at 1:30 p.m. in the Karl English Lounge.
If you enjoyed one of St. Andrew’s Christmas puddings from our Bazaar we’d be happy to recycle the jars! They are 500 ml wide mouth glass jars with metal rings. They can be left in the main kitchen or on the welcome desk. Thank you!

LENT STUDY ~ Feb 25 - Apr 1, 2026

LENT STUDY ~ Feb 25 - Apr 1, 2026

(7:00 – 8:30 pm on Zoom)

Rev. Laurie is facilitating a 6 week Wednesday evening online Lent study starting February 25th, ending April 1.
In The Last Supper: Conversations that Led to the Cross, Will Wilimon invites us to follow Jesus on his final journey from Palm Sunday to Easter, listening carefully to the parables he tells along the way. But be warned: Willimon calls these stories "riddles" rather than simple moral lessons, and he insists they're primarily about God's character rather than our behavior. As he puts it with characteristic bluntness, "Want to get close to Jesus? You'll have to sit for story time with him."
All are warmly welcome to attend ~ there is a signup sheet is in the foyer, or you can contact the church office by emailing: office@standrewscalgary.ca or by calling 403-255-0001. Come sit for story time.

GriefShare starts March 2nd

GriefShare starts March 2nd

Grief is not a disease or disorder, it’s an emotional, physical and spiritual behavioral response to any significant loss, most commonly the death of a loved one.  Facilitators Judie Coleman, Clay Kuhn and Alice Williams would be happy to answer any questions you have about the program that starts MARCH 2 (Monday nights from 7:00 - 8:30 pm in the Lower Fireside Room)

Spiritual Care Program Survey: Thank you, thank you, thank you… and please.

Spiritual Care Program Survey: Thank you, thank you, thank you… and please.

Thanks to all those who have already filled in the spiritual care programs survey! It’s been interesting for us to read the preliminary results. So far, “listening for God in times of challenge” and “discussion groups that address where God is in turbulent times” are locked in a dead heat. You can break the tie by completing the survey online (PLEASE click the link below), or by filling in a hard copy (available at the ‘sign up’ desk at the church, or by speaking with one of our office staff). You can do it in less than five minutes. Promise.
The more results we receive, the better we can gauge what the congregations’ interests and desires are.
We want to serve you by asking what you need. Let us know about the programs that will fill your boots and provide solace for your soul.
~ Rev. Geoffrey
