Rev. Peter Coutts - Transfiguration Sunday

The Transfiguration Story of Jesus may be the most peculiar story in the Gospels and the hardest one for us to get our head around. But is the story the problem, or our ingrained way we approach “mystery” today?

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

This is what love looks like!

Words can not express the gratitude we feel.  The Meal Train provided awesome meals for Colin and I the past two weeks while I am recovering from a fall. A HUGE thank you to those who delivered us a wonderful dinner. They were greatly appreciated.
We have also been overwhelmed by the warmth, kindness and support by the family of St. Andrew’s
Many blessings. ~ Colin and Marilyn Cantlie

Ash Wednesday Service - February 18th @ 7pm

Ash Wednesday Service - February 18th @ 7pm

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the 40 days of Lent that ends on Easter Sunday.  Sundays are not included in the count of 40, since every Sunday is a celebration of the Lord's resurrection. On Ash Wednesday we begin a season of reflection, and prayer.  We have ashes put on our forehead in the sign of the cross.
Ash Wednesday reminds us of Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness, and we invite Jesus into our wilderness.  Just as Jesus fasted in the wilderness, some might fast from a food item, or an activity that is distracting like screen time, or perhaps add an activity like a daily walk, in order to pray.

LENT STUDY ~ Feb 25 - Apr 1, 2026

LENT STUDY ~ Feb 25 - Apr 1, 2026

7:00 – 8:30 pm on ZOOM

Rev. Laurie is facilitating a 6 week Wednesday evening online Lent study starting February 25th, ending April 1.
All are warmly welcome to attend ~ there is a signup sheet in the foyer, or you can contact the church office by emailing: office@standrewscalgary.ca or by calling 403-255-0001. You don’t have to purchase a book in order to be part of the Study - Rev. Laurie will send out some questions each week for us ‘to ponder together’ when we meet.  If you would like the office to order a book for you, it will be delivered early March (it seems to be a popular item, so stores had to restock).  The Faith Formation Team will subsidize books ordered through the office so that you pay $20.00 for your book.  Contact the church office if interested.
Here is a description of the study:
In The Last Supper: Conversations that Led to the Cross, Will Wilimon invites us to follow Jesus on his final journey from Palm Sunday to Easter, listening carefully to the parables he tells along the way. But be warned: Willimon calls these stories "riddles" rather than simple moral lessons, and he insists they're primarily about God's character rather than our behavior. As he puts it with characteristic bluntness, "Want to get close to Jesus? You'll have to sit for story time with him."
Come sit with us for story time.

Deb

Lent Devotionals

Lent Devotionals

Lent devotions are available for families, adults, and senior adults.  There will be devotions that you can pick up in the Foyer starting this Sunday. You also have two online options below. Each week in worship during Lent, the children will hear a story focussing on one of the ‘family devotionals’. The storybook that is read will be placed in the children’s library in the Children’s Sunday School Classroom downstairs, and can be signed out by families any time.

Online options for Lenten Devotionals:

St. Andrew’s Hall (Presbyterian Church in Canada’s West Coast college) Lenten Devotional Guide offers a daily scripture reading and prayer, along with a theological reflection.

Presbyterian Outlook (Presbyterian Church USA) - this devotional journeys through the Gospel of Matthew - a Gospel shaped in conflict, fragile community and deep disagreement - and invites readers to follow Jesus with humility, courage and faithfulness when the ground feels unsteady. It contains a daily Scripture-based reflection, reflection questions and prayers, and a pastoral voice that names the weight without rushing past hope.

Stars and Wishes

Stars and Wishes

Over the next two Sundays, we invite you to fill out sticky notes in the foyer or send a note to the office (office@standrewscalgary.ca) as part of session consulting with the congregation.
STARS are what St. Andrew's is doing well now - what are we known for - our strengths!
WISHES are where you would see St. Andrew's going in the future - a hurt or need in the community, a program that would further our vision, a mission idea that you feel the spirit calling us to pursue.

These will be grouped, summarized, are reported back to the congregation by Session, so together we implement our vision of being Woven into the neighbourhood, growing disciples who love like Jesus.

Our spiritual care survey: The people have spoken…and are still speaking!

Our spiritual care survey: The people have spoken…and are still speaking!

Last week, we asked you to break the tie between two front-runners in our survey: Listening for God in times of change and challenge, and discussion groups that address where God is in turbulent times. By one vote, the former has nudged out the latter. You can still vote though, either online or with a hard copy (available in our foyer).
Those who responded clearly would like us to address real-life situations where folks of all generations can use their faith practices to help them find faithful perspectives in the face of daunting events in the world. We are listening and ready to respond with appropriate programming. Thanks for your input!
