April 19, 2026 - I walk a lonely road...

Rev. Fiona Swanson - Easter 2

What has been your greatest walk, hike or climb? What made it great? The view, the feeling of doing good for your body, or the companionship or lack of? The two disciples I imagine were walking a lonely road!

Would you like to share your talents, interests, skills? Read on!

We have some wonderful ways you may wish to share your ‘abilities’ within our faith community. Please contact Debby (ddorcas@standrewscalgary.ca) if you would like to volunteer, or if you need more information on any of the following:
AUDIO VISUAL
Are you interested in the background, essential work of sound, cameras, and live streaming? David Kurtz, our very capable sound, camera and AV coordinator, invites anyone interested in helping out to add your name to the signup sheet in the foyer. He will hold a brief meeting following worship on April 26th to talk to those interested in some ‘training’. If you can't make the meeting, make sure your name is on the list and we will be in touch!
DRAMA
Do you like drama? Perhaps not in your life, but in the church, we are about STORY! Dramatic readings, acting out a Scripture, or even drama that teaches, can be powerful. If you are interested in becoming part of this dynamic way of presenting the many stories of the Bible, or "playing" with the Scripture, please add your name to the sign up in the lobby, or speak with Debby or Rev. Laurie.
FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM
If anyone is interested in posting regularly to St. Andrew’s Facebook and Instagram pages, please speak with Debby or call the church office. We have a great tool called "Meta Business Suite Planner" which will allow you to set up a week's worth of posts based on our LinX email the evening that it comes out. You can see a screenshot of the planner if you CLICK HERE.
GARDENING
We are looking for gardeners for our flower beds, hedges, and flower pots here at the Church. For many years now Pat & Duane Tritter, Lee & Rob Goss, Phyllis Duncan, and Marianne Attridge & Noel White have served in this way and need a break for their tired green thumbs. We THANK THEM for sharing their time and talents, and look forward to hearing from others who would like to serve in this way. Maureen Amos is carrying on, but she only has two green thumbs and we need many more! Please speak with Debby or call the church office.

Pave The Way - with special thanks to Tom McIntyre

On Sunday, March 22 we celebrated the accomplishments of the 2025 Pave the Way project. As good Presbyterians, food was involved!!
KUDOS TO:
The Men’s Group for a wonderful meal. Special thanks to organizers Terry Basaraba and David Townsend ~ and to ‘workers’ Andrew Travers, David Travers, Derek Wilkinson, Douglas Hendrickson, Loran McVittie, and Stephen Henrichsen.
Masters of Ceremony: Matt & Lauren Nolette
Thanking the Pave The Way team and contributors: Cathy Millar
Thanking Emma for ‘sharing’ Tom with us, and thanking Tom for ALL he did for us: Debby Dorcas
Tom thanked all those who worked with him throughout the project ~ complete with nicknames!
Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us - truly a ‘the more the merrier’ event. And thanks for your generosity in contributing to the cost of the luncheon. After expenses, the Men’s Group contributed $275 to the Pave the Way fund!!
To recap: Our fundraising goal was $150,000 towards the final cost of the project. Initially we thought it could take us 2 years to reach this goal, but we reached it in less than 1 year (about 9 months)! The total raised was $156,000 in 2025, and we have received a few more donations in 2026. Special thanks to our anonymous donor who challenged us to raise $40,000 that they would match. We did… and they did! We also received a grant from the Presbyterian Church in Canada of $25,000. Thanks to Peter Coutts for working on that grant for us. And then… the congregation came through not only with the ‘matching money’, but going above and beyond that in generous giving. Well done, St. Andrew’s!!  You came through again.
~
Debby

So let’s “Play Ball” THIS SUNDAY!

So let’s “Play Ball” THIS SUNDAY!

Please remember to bring your ball with you to church on Sunday, April 19 and don’t forget to write on your ball one special thing you did to show kindness to another person during Lent. A Sharpie pen will work best because it won’t rub off. We encourage you to do this before you leave home, but we will also have tables with pens set up for you at the church. We will be collecting your ball from you during the Children’s Time and will select a few of them to read. We can’t wait to hear all the different ways the people of St. Andrew’s shared God’s love with others when the ball landed in your court!

Straight from the ‘hearts’ of our congregation

Straight from the ‘hearts’ of our congregation

The March 14th workshop with biblical scholar Rev. Dr. Patricia Dutcher-Walls empowered each participant to develop a statement of faith around inclusion. Here is one example:
"I think God is a God who challenges our human assumptions around who belongs in God's household of grace. The Bible has many stories in which diverse people are loved and included. This leads me to think St. Andrew's should continue its commitment to be Public, Intentional, and Explicit (P.I.E.) about embracing queer folks in the life of our church because if God challenges assumptions around who belongs, we should do the same by challenging our own assumptions and simply accept people as they are." Are You Able to Provide a Gift Card for One of Our Post Secondary Students?

Are You Able to Provide a Gift Card for One of Our Post Secondary Students?

It is spring again already and time for the Faith Formation Team to arrange a wee gift for each of our post secondary students for their final set of exams this school year. We like our St. Andrew’s students know they are being thought of and that we hold them in our prayers. We are looking for families able to assist one student by purchasing a $25 gift card (i.e. Tim Horton’s, Subway, Indigo, etc.) You would mail the gift card with a caring message to a student, whose name and address will be provided to you. Our students are most grateful for the gift and encouragement! If you are able to help, please connect with Rhonda Wishart at Rhonda.wishart@icloud.com or 403-614-9924 to be provided the name and address of a student. Thank you to all past and current participants!

You are cordially invited to a workshop where we will explain clearly how, when, what, how, and why to do advance care planning. Feel free to bring a friend. RSVP would be appreciated so we can ensure that we have enough handouts. If you would like to register, please call the office at 403-255-0001. This workshop will take place
