LinX Email for April 22, 2026
April 26, 2026 - Shepherd Sunday

April 26, 2026 - Shepherd Sunday

Rev. Laurie McKay - Easter 3

Today is Shepherd Sunday. We ponder what voice calls us forward and into what rut. We consider what it means to be chased by grace for surely goodness and mercy will pursue me all the days of my life. As a flock, we know that we are moving as a community, led by a Good Shepherd.

Would you like to share your talents, interests, skills? Read on!

We have some wonderful ways you may wish to share your ‘abilities’ within our faith community. Please contact Debby (ddorcas@standrewscalgary.ca) if you would like to volunteer, or if you need more information on any of the following:
AUDIO VISUAL
Are you interested in the background, essential work of sound, cameras, and live streaming? David Kurtz, our very capable sound, camera and AV coordinator, invites anyone interested in helping out to add your name to the signup sheet in the foyer. He will hold a brief meeting following worship on April 26th to talk to those interested in some ‘training’. If you can't make the meeting, make sure your name is on the list and we will be in touch!
DRAMA
Do you like drama? Perhaps not in your life, but in the church, we are about STORY! Dramatic readings, acting out a Scripture, or even drama that teaches, can be powerful. If you are interested in becoming part of this dynamic way of presenting the many stories of the Bible, or "playing" with the Scripture, please add your name to the sign up in the lobby, or speak with Debby or Rev. Laurie.
FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM
If anyone is interested in posting regularly to St. Andrew’s Facebook and Instagram pages, please speak with Debby or call the church office. We have a great tool called "Meta Business Suite Planner" which will allow you to set up a week's worth of posts based on our LinX email the evening that it comes out. You can see a screenshot of the planner if you CLICK HERE.
GARDENING
We are looking for gardeners for our flower beds, hedges, and flower pots here at the Church. For many years now Pat & Duane Tritter, Lee & Rob Goss, Phyllis Duncan, and Marianne Attridge & Noel White have served in this way and need a break for their tired green thumbs. We THANK THEM for sharing their time and talents, and look forward to hearing from others who would like to serve in this way. Maureen Amos is carrying on, but she only has two green thumbs and we need many more! Please speak with Debby or call the church office.

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

We are so grateful to have youth in our congregation ~ we know there are many congregations who do not! And we are blessed to have youth who are ENGAGED in the life of St. Andrew’s.
We have much to learn from them!  ~ Deb

From Lauren Nolette, Youth Leader:   The youth of St Andrew’s are doing a bottle drive in support of their upcoming trip to Ontario for Collective, the youth conference this August. Please mark your calendars that the bottle drive will be on SATURDAY, MAY 23rd at 3-5pm here in the St Andrew’s PARKING LOT!  If you have bottles to bring but will be away on the day of the bottle drive, you can bring them on any Sunday between now and then and give them to Matt Nolette.  Matt will store them until the 23rd! Thank you for your continued support and contribution to the faith of our youth!

Straight from the ‘hearts’ of our congregation

#4 in our series

The March 14th workshop with biblical scholar Rev. Dr. Patricia Dutcher-Walls empowered each participant to develop a statement of faith around inclusion. We've been sharing them each week in LinX.
Here is another example:
"God's love is always expanding the boundaries of who is included. The bible has many stories of Jesus crossing the boundaries of insiders and outsiders in his culture to show us that God's household of grace includes everyone. God is a God of unconditional love". - Deanne Barrett

Ladies Guild

Ladies Guild

As announced previously, the Ladies Guild is planning a Mother’s Day Shower in support of Basically Babies! Requested items should be new or clean, very gently used.
Basically Babies’ purpose is to “outfit newborns in need” by providing a layette – a complete first-year baby wardrobe.
There will be a play-pen set-up in the foyer this Sunday, April 26, and on the following two Sundays May 3 & 10 with samples of some of the items we’re collecting and where you can drop off your donations. You may choose to make a financial donation instead through the Ladies Guild (email to ladiesguild@standrewscalgary.ca) or directly to Basically Babies at basicallybabies.org, mentioning the St. Andrew’s Ladies Guild Baby Shower.
We sincerely thank you in advance for your support!
~
Sylvia Shaw, Ladies Guild

Forest-bathing trail opens in Inglewood Offering Mental Health and Wellness Benefits

Forest-bathing trail opens in Inglewood Offering Mental Health and Wellness Benefits

Calgarians don’t need reminding to enjoy beautiful spring weather. Now we have a different way of doing this - a Forest Bathing Trail at the Bird Sanctuary in Inglewood. While not literal bathing, forest bathing is a chance to “bathe” and be immersed in the forest surroundings. The idea of forest bathing originated in Japan in the 1980s. Now along a one-kilometre loop visitors can experience Calgary’s first forest bathing trail. Designed to support the well-being of Calgary’s residents and visitors alike, the self-guided trail takes users on a sensory exploration of the sanctuary.

Sometimes you just need to say something...

Sometimes you just need to say something...

And so Rev. Laurie has written a letter to Albertans to challenge the questions that target new arrivals to Canada on the upcoming referendum.

Rev. Laurie’s letter can be read by CLICKING HERE

Along with Rev. Laurie's letter, others are speaking out about the impact that the referendum questions have in weakening the voice of Albertans. Surely these questions distract from the larger issues facing health, social, and education services.  Read the letter from International Migrant Alliance of Alberta.
