That means that God works with what God gets. We live in a world where humans have genuine freedom to make choices not entirely predetermined by God.

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

On Sunday, June 7 we celebrated with our ‘Grade 6 Grad’ youth, and our ‘Grade 12 Grads’. St. Andrew’s is so blessed to have children and youth among us. We teach them, they teach us, we make them smile, they make us laugh. We grow life together - with God.
Grade 6 Grad youth:  Adam Stolee, Adelaide McLachlan, Poppy Reimer, Dian Yeboah and Emilie van der Merwe.
Grade 12 Grads:  Annika Thornborough, Sebastian Aburto, Spencer Bridgemohan and Braeden Werle.
Look out world!! Here they come!!!
If you missed the service on Sunday, you should watch it on YouTube, as Rhonda Wishart, our wonderful Faith Formation Convenor, told a little bit about each person. I’ve known most of them for years now, and still found out information that was new to me!

We ask that each one of you, our family of faith,  remember to pray for our children and youth. For  those going into Grade 7, we get to have a few more years with you here in our midst. For those graduating high school and remaining in the city, we hope to see you often. For those moving away to university, we still look forward to keeping in touch as you ‘move through the world’! God bless you, each and every one!

Church School Update

Church School Update

As the school year winds down, our church school year is wrapping up as well. The children enjoyed a wonderful end-of-year celebration on May 31. Although the wrap-up party has taken place, our dedicated Faith Formation leaders will CONTINUE TEACHING THROUGH SUNDAY, JUNE 21.
There will be no church school during the summer months. We will resume our regular schedule in September. During the summer, children are warmly welcomed to stay with us in the sanctuary during worship. If they need a break or a quieter space, the nursery is always available. Activity sheets can also be found at the back of the sanctuary for children to enjoy during the service.

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS TO PARKING LOT

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS TO PARKING LOT

As feared and explicitly expressed during preliminary discussions with adjacent developers, heavy traffic through the parking lot and truck staging on church property has become an issue. There are concerns of safety and damage to pavement. Meetings with construction site personnel have been positive and they have issued instructions to their contractors. However, the problem persists.
Contractors who are heeding the caution presently have to back up in the lane from the west entrance on Heritage to the construction site, since it is impossible to turn a large truck in the narrow space. This poses a further risk to local residents and others who frequently use the lane.
St Andrew's has elected to close the south exit to the lane and install barricades to resolve concerns. However, in the spirit of good neighbourly cooperation and further safety concern for adjacent residents, the barricade will form a 'U' shape that will allow trucks to travel forward down the lane and nose into the church barricade to allow safe completion of a U turn to the construction site. In turn, the contractor has committed to install the barricades, undertake any required damage repairs and provide any local grade improvements on church property upon completion of work.
These restrictive measures will remain in place until fall when most of the heavy construction should be complete. This problem could resurface when eventual activity commences on the adjacent 'tennis court' site.
The barricades will impact recycling operations at the garbage enclosure but these are controlled by St. Andrew's and will require temporary removal of the barricade and repositioning. Upon notice from the office, the Parking Team will arrange for necessary access.  Please forward any comments or concerns to Mark Rowe or me and we will address. Thank you for your understanding.

Summer Rest: Let Yourself Slow Down

Summer Rest: Let Yourself Slow Down

Summer has a way of feeling busy in a different way—even when things are supposed to be lighter.
But we weren’t made to keep going at full speed all the time.  Sometimes, what we need most is to simply pause and remember God’s invitation: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Not striving. Not pushing harder. Just being still.
Rest isn’t falling behind—it’s making space to breathe, to notice what matters, and to reconnect with God in the middle of everyday life. Even small, quiet moments can restore more than we realize.
So if you need it, take the permission: slow down this summer. You don’t have to earn rest—it's already a gift.   “Come to me… and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28     If, though, you wish to support your own healthy living choices, you can enroll in dozens of free in-person and online courses run by the Alberta Healthy Living Program. Their program options are linked here. (Tip: online courses can be taken from any region in the province, not just the one you live in.)

Learn & Chat with a Knowledge Keeper

Learn & Chat with a Knowledge Keeper

In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s call to action by the Presbyterian Church in Canada, St. Andrew’s is committed to nurture and support various initiatives of the congregation, Indigenous organizations, and people of our community, encouraging positive relationships.
The following ‘Learn & Chat with a Knowledge Keeper Series’ is a co-sponsored opportunity (Kingsland & Acadia social worker, Aboriginal Friendship Centre, and St. Andrew’s) to support one of our fundamental commitments: We will continue to listen and learn from Indigenous people, leaders, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, welcoming and engaging voices from both within and beyond The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Many know Alana from our St. Andrew’s 2019 Pow Wow, as she is the cultural teacher with the Aboriginal Friendship Centre, a long-time friend of St. Andrew’s. EVERYONE is warmly welcome to join any or all of these opportunities (June 17, July 8 and July 22) from 6:00 – 7:30 pm in Trinity Hall.
