In the parable of the sheep and the goats, Jesus surprises the listener. They ask, “When did I see YOU hungry, or thirsty or in prison or a stranger?” Welcome includes those who are on the boundaries. Jesus meets us there. Jesus upsets polite society in his radical welcome. We practice this radical welcome at church so it’s easier when we leave this place. We are fed at the Lord’s table, sustained by grace that we too are welcomed. The Nuer fellowship welcomes those who have recently arrived from Sudan.

Food for the Body

Our St. Andrew’s Men’s Group did us proud on Sunday, September 23rd as they once again provided a ‘Cornfest’ meal for us following morning worship. This hard working group had a menu of corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and even dessert! If you missed it this year, don’t miss it next! It’s become a yearly event. Thank you to Terry Basaraba and his team of mighty men. You are appreciated!

Before food for the bodies came food for the SOUL, provided by three of our VERY TALENTED youth. We are so grateful to Andreas, Emilie and Lukas for their musical participation, Andreas on violin, and Emilie and Lukas on the piano. Fun… and well done!!!!

Happy Labour Day everyone!

St. Andrew’s Session has been considering ways we can invite people to share in ministry, in Growing. Life. Together. With God. As we look at our people sitting in the pews every Sunday morning, how can we include them in participating in worship? One thing we have been discussing is including more people in serving Communion.

With the arrival of September, we’re looking forward to our first meeting of the 26/27 church year on Tuesday September 8 at 1:30 p.m. in the Karl English lounge. This will be a business meeting and you can be assured that the topic of the upcoming Christmas Bazaar – scheduled for Saturday, November 14th - will be on the agenda! All are invited to attend and enjoy tea with us at the beginning of the meeting.

The dark brown cabinet was Karl English’s closet back in the day!  The lighter cabinet has been used for storage for our younger children’s Church School supplies for many years.  
If you are interested in one of these cabinets, please call the office at 403-255-0001.  You will need to arrange pick-up before 3:30 Thursday, September 10 (reminder that the office is closed this Friday and next Monday).

As of September 8th, the BACK ALLEY ENTRY into our parking lot will not be accessible to traffic. This will be closed for about 1 ½ - 2 weeks. You’ll need to enter our parking lot from Heritage Drive. Construction work may be continuing there as well, so please slow down and be careful as you enter and exit.

September 13th will be an exciting service for ALL of us at St. Andrew’s, whether you are part of our morning (English) or afternoon (Nuer) worshipping congregations. Our youth and their leaders will lead worship as they share their experiences at Collective (youth conference in Ontario) this summer. Mark your calendars for a change for BOTH our morning and afternoon worship services, as we will be having ONE JOINT SERVICE AT 12:00 NOON, followed by a potluck feast in Trinity Hall. We know the fall is a ‘ways off’, but we wanted to make sure we give lots of notice about the change in time!

Being active is the secret to staying healthy, and walking is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to get moving.
If we get enough interest, the walking group will meet at South Centre on THURSDAYS, October 1 - November 26, 2026 at 9.30 am.

What is our ambition costing us - and is there a better way to pursue a meaningful life? That’s the question Yale Theologian, author, and one of the most influential Christian voices of our generation - will explore at Grace Presbyterian Church September 18 - 20.
Drawing on his work on ambition, comparison, and the good life, Dr. Volf will push past the workplace clichés about success and ask what a genuinely flourishing life looks like.

The weekend:

•         Saturday, Sept 19 — Full-day workshop with catered lunch and Q&A (Cost is $65, students $35)

Friends, we are only a few short weeks away from the Third Annual Reconciliation Journey Walk around the Glenmore Reservoir! 
This walk:

• Creates opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to become friends!
• Supports the dream of an Indigenous person, Alphonse Nepoose. 
• Raises awareness about residential schools and the resilience of Indigenous people. 
• Is a tangible act of reconciliation - Alphonse (Indigenous) & Layne (non-Indigenous) have been working together meaningfully for 5+ years.
