The Art of Neighbouring: Making Time—Are You Interruptible? - Dr. Tim Archibald

October 3, 2021 – 9:30 am Sunday Worship Service

Do I live at a pace that allows me to be available to others?—to neighbours? Hurry is the enemy of relationships—with God, with neighbours—and is incompatible with Jesus Kingdom life. Hope you can join us this Sunday when, in a visit with Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42), Jesus offers us a life-giving alternate.
To prepare for Sunday worship, read:
Luke 10: 38-42

During Sunday Worship, here are activity sheets for all ages & stages:
3+   7+   Youth    Adult

Please join us for in-person worship at 9:30 Sunday morning (no need to register); or use the link below which will be updated Sunday morning by 9:00 am to take you to our live streamed service.

BOOK STUDY OPPORTUNITIES: THE ART OF NEIGHBORING

It’s not too late to participate in a Book Study group!  There are still 4 weeks left, and each week you  read one chapter and then participate in a lively, thoughtful, discussion on the topic of becoming a good/better neighbor (and maybe not even just to those next door).  Please consider joining a Monday night, Tuesday afternoon, or Wednesday morning group.  The office has a book waiting just for you!

Bible Buddies - Story Alive at 9 - starts this Sunday!

Bible Buddies - Story Alive at 9 - starts this Sunday!

The Faith Formation Team is delighted to announce fall church school on Zoom that will commence on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 9 a.m. and will run on the first and third Sundays of the month through the fall. While not nearly the same as in-person church school, safety comes first, and we see this as the best option in the circumstances. Unlike simply watching a lesson online, church school on Zoom will enable the children to more personally interact with their friends and leaders.

We contemplate a half hour together. We will start the half hour with all the children coming together briefly for greeting and will then facilitate breaking into two groups (loosely) based on age – children from age 3 up to Grade 2 in one group; and Grades 3-7 in another - for the story/video/discussion time.

We would request that parents register in advance for each of the Sundays, so the leaders know how many and which children to expect. Please register children the week before each Sunday Church School zoom, by sending an email to the church office at:  office@standrewscalgary.ca   Please provide your children’s names and ages in the email. The fall dates will be Oct. 3 & 17, Nov. 7 & 21 and Dec. 5 & 19.

There are many people at St. Andrew’s who quietly give of themselves.

These people prefer not to be in the ‘limelight’, but without them we couldn’t do all the things we need to do.  You know who you are.  THANK YOU!

Mark your calendars for a revised timing for our Worship Service starting October 17th

Mark your calendars for a revised timing for our Worship Service starting October 17th

In response to the question “Initially we are planning to have only one service as we re-gather, which service time would you prefer?”

61.82% (68 respondents) chose                     10:00 am
38.18% (42 respondents) chose                     10:30 am
(4 people skipped this question)

SO… mark your calendars that timing for our Worship Service will change as follows: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 17th, 2021 @ 10:00 am.  For those who like to sleep in on a Sunday morning, or ponder the crossword puzzle with a cup of coffee before worship, this is good news!   Whether you are worshipping with us in-person or online, we look forward to worshipping together at 10:00 am starting October 17th!

We are grateful to the 114 people who responded to the Worship Team’s survey about regathering for worship this fall.  Watch LinX for full survey results next week.

To keep everyone who may enter St. Andrew's building as safe as possible, the re-opening task force has decided to adopt the Alberta Government Proof of Vaccine program:

"From September 20 to October 25, valid proof of a single dose of  COVID vaccine received at least two weeks before entry into the church.
From October 26 and beyond, proof of a complete COVID vaccine series with the second dose received two or more weeks prior to entry into the church."
We will be asking everyone to show proof of vaccine along with photo identification. As per AHS guidelines, masks and physical distancing will continue to be required.  No food or drink will be allowed. Our online service will continue to be available each week for those who need to worship that way.
If you have any questions, please contact the church office.

Journeying with our Indigenous Community

At St. Andrew’s Indigenous Friendship Day in the Spring of 2019, we embarked on a journey in closer proximity with our Indigenous neighbours.  Through this enriching friendship we are learning and growing together.  Our whole country mourns the announcement this year of hundreds and hundreds of indigenous children who died and were buried ‘invisibly’ at government sponsored church-run Residential Schools in Canada.
The Mission Team invites you to an evening where these children can be made visible for us.  Two indigenous elders will share their own experiences as survivors of Residential Schools.  Hope you can join us for this poignant evening:
                   Wednesday, Oct 13 from 7 - 8:30 pm
You can join us in-person (subject to Covid protocols) or by livestream (a link will be provided closer to Oct 13th)
