Growing Life Together with God

April 3 - Lent 5 : Walking with Jesus - Love with All Your Heart - Rev. Geoffrey

April 3 - Lent 5 : Walking with Jesus - Love with All Your Heart - Rev. Geoffrey

What does it mean to give everything you have, everything you are, in service of God? That’s the question this week’s Scripture asks us to consider. The costly nard that Mary of Bethany spread on Jesus’ feet was worth nearly a year’s wages. She gave it willingly, without thought to the cost. What about us? What are we willing to give of ourselves? To prepare for this Sunday's service,
you can read  John 12: 1 - 8

During Sunday Worship, here are activity sheets (based on today’s scripture reading) for all ages and stages:
3+   7+   Youth    Adult
Please join us for in-person worship at 10:00 Sunday morning (no need to register); or use the link below which will be updated Sunday morning by 9:30 am to take you to our live streamed service.

RefleXions on Paul's letter to the church in Galacia about inviting Gentiles into Full Christian Fellowship

The truth of the Gospel is that "All of us are in One in Jesus Christ". But the church has taken centuries to make numerous "Leaps" to understand what this truly means.

Romans 12:12: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

These last few years have been especially difficult for so many people.  In the midst of the difficulty stands a group of St. Andrew’s faithful ‘pray-ers’.  We are so grateful for our Prayer Ministry ~ for Lorie Nielsen who coordinates this ministry ~ and for all those who pray for people and their needs.  If you or someone you know is in need of prayer (illness, hospitalization, grieving or fearful, homebound, or with other needs where God could comfort and support), please don’t hesitate to reach out by sending an email to prayer@standrewscalgary.ca.

Returning to In-Person Worship and Activity at St Andrew's

Returning to In-Person Worship and Activity at St Andrew's

Across Canada in recent weeks there has been a steady move towards removing COVID related restrictions. While many welcome this shift and the infection related dangers have been significantly reduced by vaccinations, there are still two realities: people are still getting COVID and some congregants consequently are quite cautious about returning to in-person activities. As an example, one congregant who was at worship last Sunday was diagnosed with COVID this week. With restrictions greatly reduced we will all unknowingly be near infected persons in the grocery store, the restaurant, at the Flames game and in our friend's living room. As we have heard, we are now moving into the phase called "living with COVID."
The Session welcomes the opportunity we now have to return to more in-person activity (in fact, the Session met in-person last night). However, our calling as Christians "to bear the burden of our brother and sister" (Galatians 6.2) raises our concern for the cautious among us and what we can do to help them return to in-person worship and activity.  So the Session encourages the following:
We strongly encourage masking, vaccinations and social distancing  but do not mandate it. This is an expression of care for others. It is our hope that these practices will help us all achieve what we all want: a full return to in-person congregational life.
Thanks for your understanding.
Rev. Peter Coutts

"Helping Yourself Heal When Someone Dies'' and "Understanding the Six Central Needs of Mourning''

The following announcement comes with the support of the Life after Loss team of St. Andrew's

McInnis and Holloway Funeral homes have had the pleasure of inviting Dr. Wolfelt to Calgary to share his “Companioning Philosophy” for many years. With all the wonderful feedback we receive from participants, we are pleased to bring back the highly regarded and anticipated Dr. Wolfelt in April 2022.
This year, to accommodate everyone’s full and busy lifestyle, we are excited to offer Dr. Wolfelt’s sessions virtually so that you may enjoy them in the comfort of your own environment.  Dr. Wolfelt’s compassionate approach of “companioning” versus “treating” mourners, helps people to mourn well, so that they can live well and love well.

The days are getting longer. The sun is warm on your face for the first time in months.

The days are getting longer. The sun is warm on your face for the first time in months.

That feeling of relief — of hope — is what you can bring to neighbours experiencing homelessness, poverty, and hunger.

The winter has been incredibly tough. From the bone-chilling weather to the ongoing pandemic, many in our community are hurting.  With Easter just one month away, now is the time for us to give our neighbours care, comfort, and hope — starting with a nourishing meal.  Your special gift today will help the Mustard Seed welcome every hungry person who turns to them for a wholesome Easter meal. That meal, served with unconditional love, will give someone hope for brighter days to come.
