Tomorrow is Red Dress Day - May 5

Tomorrow is Red Dress Day - May 5

Red dresses represent the more than 1000 missing Canadian Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people.  Why red?  An Indigenous friend explained that it is the only colour that spirits can see. It also represents lifeblood, and the gendered and racialized nature of violent crimes against Indigenous women.
St. Andrew’s and the Mission Team will be acknowledging Red Dress day on May 5th.
How can you help St. Andrew’s mark this day of solidarity?
 - by wearing red (and posting it to social media if you’re tech savvy)
 - by hanging a red dress or red ribbon in your window or yard
- by checking out more details on our Events Page [HERE]
- by making yourself familiar with the Indigenous content we have about this issue on our website under Friendship Circle [Here]

Church School Sundae Funday for St. Andrew's Kids

Sunday, May 29th, 10 a.m - 12 p.m. (during Sunday worship service extending until the end of the congregation workshop)

Where: St Andrew’s Up High
As we start to see young people in church again, we have something to celebrate! All children are invited to join us for a fun worship time together with a treat of imaginative toppings in a “build your own sundae” experience! This will take place in the Up High space during regular Sunday service on May 29. As many parents will be staying for the workshop following the service that day, the children are invited to stay together for the second hour, where they will be enthusiastically led by some of our St. Andrew’s youth for more fun activities. See you there!
Spring Hike - Come one, Come ALL!!!

Spring Hike - Come one, Come ALL!!!

We are planning a Spring Hike for Saturday June 18th.  We will meet at the Ribbon Creek Day Use parking lot at 10:00am.  The parking area is accessed off the Kananaskis Village turn off.  For anyone with the AllTrails App (a great free app for hiking routes!)  the hike is called  Ribbon Creek, Kovach, and Terrace Loop. The hike is a 5.6 km loop and should be enjoyable for all ages.  Since this is a Spring hike be prepared for wet conditions on the trail (hopefully not though!).  Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leash.

We are excited to have Dr. Geoffrey Simmins joining to offer communion at a rest stop along the trail. For those wishing to unwind after our hike feel free to pack a lunch and meet up in the parking area afterwards. Please RSVP to lucy_aburto@shaw.ca so we have an idea of numbers attending.

We hope you will Save the Date for our Annual Family Camping weekend August 26 - 28.

We hope you will Save the Date for our Annual Family Camping weekend August 26 - 28.

This year we will be camping at River Cove Group Campground.  The campsite is located close to Bragg Creek and is very convenient for those wishing to join us just for the day!  Day trippers are invited to bring a picnic lunch and/or dinner and stay for games and a hike. Campers are responsible for their own food and drink.  Cost for each family is $75.00.  Firewood is provided.  All ages and camping experience is welcome!  Please contact Craig Murray at murraycraigjohn@gmail.com to book your spot!

We are grateful for all the people at St. Andrew’s who have a heart for others. Today we would like to say thank you to Pam Hawco, Elizabeth Rollheiser, Audrey Cole and Sheri Coutts.

We are grateful for all the people at St. Andrew’s who have a heart for others. Today we would like to say thank you to Pam Hawco, Elizabeth Rollheiser, Audrey Cole and Sheri Coutts.

Since the beginning of Covid, Pam has made and donated 200 masks to charity, and has made 26 quilts.  Elizabeth, Audrey and Sheri have made masks and shared them with members of our congregation and others.
These women have taken to heart (and hands) Hebrews 13:16:
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
If you know of others who have shared their talents, please send an email to office@standrewscalgary.ca so we can include them in our gratitude moments.

Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers:

Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers:

The family of Bunty (Elizabeth) MacKenzie, who passed away last week.  There will be a private family service for Bunty this Saturday at St. Andrew’s.
The family of Grace Gardiner Fraser, who passed away May 3.  Grace is the mother of Nancy Wiswell, mother-in-law of Andrew.  A service for Grace will be held at St. Andrew’s next week; details are still being finalized.

Imagine what someone else might be feeling.

Practice empathy. Empathy is “ the capacity we share as human beings to step into each other’s shoes. To understand where they’re coming from and what they’re feeling. To listen hard and refuse to judge. It’s also one way to reduce and resolve conflict. #GetReal about how to help. Before you weigh in, tune in.”
