Invitation to the Entire Congregation for Sunday, May 29th 10:00 - Noon: Worship and Open Space Workshop on Finding our Strategic Direction

Join us Sunday, May 29th and help co-create our sense of strategic direction with God, as an act of community and an act of faith, by naming the kind of world we, as a congregation, want to be a part of – think the Kingdom of God here on earth!  What cause/need can St Andrew’s get its heart behind? Church School and activities will be provided for children. We encourage you to attend in-person as it will be a much better experience for you, BUT A COMBINATION OF LIVE-STREAM AND ZOOM BREAK-OUT ROOMS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND IN PERSON

Sunday, May 29th, 10 a.m - 12 p.m. (during Sunday worship service extending until the end of the congregation workshop)

Where: St Andrew’s Up High
As we start to see young people in church again, we have something to celebrate! All children are invited to join us for a fun worship time together with a treat of imaginative toppings in a “build your own sundae” experience! This will take place in the Up High space during regular Sunday service on May 29. As many parents will be staying for the workshop following the service that day, the children are invited to stay together for the second hour, where they will be enthusiastically led by some of our St. Andrew’s youth for more fun activities. See you there!

Spring Hike - Come one, Come ALL!!!

Spring Hike - Come one, Come ALL!!!

We are planning a Spring Hike for Saturday June 18th.  We will meet at the Ribbon Creek Day Use parking lot at 10:00am.  The parking area is accessed off the Kananaskis Village turn off.  For anyone with the AllTrails App (a great free app for hiking routes!)  the hike is called  Ribbon Creek, Kovach, and Terrace Loop. The hike is a 5.6 km loop and should be enjoyable for all ages.  Since this is a Spring hike be prepared for wet conditions on the trail (hopefully not though!).  Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leash.

We are excited to have Dr. Geoffrey Simmins joining to offer communion at a rest stop along the trail. For those wishing to unwind after our hike feel free to pack a lunch and meet up in the parking area afterwards. Please RSVP to lucy_aburto@shaw.ca so we have an idea of numbers attending.

Claire Building Community Coffee and Gardening Time

Claire Building Community Coffee and Gardening Time

St Andrew's involvement with the Claire Bldg community, part of Calgary Homeless Foundation community development project, is on-going.  You may remember a special effort at Christmas time with gift cards to help lighten the load and bring some cheer; you may have even heard of the Mission Team, with funds from Legacy, purchasing new mattresses for a number of new residents - for many this is the first step away from homelessness and they arrive with very little.  We have also been involved with community garden, fence rebuild, and front yard beautification as well as weekly breakfast, coffee and cards social time.
Covid tripped us up for a couple of years, but we are finding our way back.  One on-going activity that is essential to the spirit of community building is Thursday morning coffee.  It is such a simple thing, but so meaningful.  We show up and they feel noticed; we keep showing up and they feel valued.  I think we can all relate.  As we get to know each other, we find interests that we can share.
One interest that is getting some attention right now is gardening.  A veggie garden is already in the works and could use some help; flower and shrub gardens to beautify the front entrance are an on-going possibility.  If you want to help out at Claire, located in our neighbourhood, a short trek from St Andrew's at 7375 - 4A St SW, just come along for coffee at 10 am Thursdays.  Be prepared to meet some of the Claire residents and for the possibility of helping with gardening.  For more information, feel free to call Bill Judd at 403-278-5904.
