Growing Life Together with God

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
StAC LinX Newsletter for Apr 27, 2022
April 24 - Rediscovering the goodness of the gospel -- with a party! - Dr. Tim Dickau

April 24 - Rediscovering the goodness of the gospel -- with a party! - Dr. Tim Dickau

Jesus was enacting a story line that could best be told with a party, and a party no less with the sort of guest list that blew away expectations.  How is God enacting this story line through St. Andrew's,  especially when it feels like our stories, personal and communal, have been interrupted and also come with a checkered history?
To prepare for this Sunday's service,
you can read  Luke 14:12-14

During Sunday Worship, here are activity sheets (based on today’s scripture reading) for all ages and stages:
3+   7+   Youth    Adult
Please join us for in-person worship at 10:00 Sunday morning or use the link below which will be updated Sunday morning by 9:30 am to take you to our live streamed service.

Just as Jonah wanted to avoid at all costs his calling in mission, we can be reluctant and anxious about our own calling in our time.

Red Dress Day - May 5

Red Dress Day - May 5

Red dresses represent the more than 1000 missing Canadian Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people.  Why red?  An Indigenous friend explained that it is the only colour that spirits can see. It also represents lifeblood, and the gendered and racialized nature of violent crimes against Indigenous women.
St. Andrew’s and the Mission Team will be acknowledging Red Dress day on May 5th.
How can you help St. Andrew’s mark this day of solidarity?
 - by wearing red (and posting it to social media if you’re tech savvy)
 - by hanging a red dress or red ribbon in your window or yard
- by checking out more details on our Events Page [HERE]

Spring Hike - Come one, Come ALL!!!

Spring Hike - Come one, Come ALL!!!

We are planning a Spring Hike for Saturday June 18th.  We will meet at the Ribbon Creek Day Use parking lot at 10:00am.  The parking area is accessed off the Kananaskis Village turn off.  For anyone with the AllTrails App (a great free app for hiking routes!)  the hike is called  Ribbon Creek, Kovach, and Terrace Loop. The hike is a 5.6 km loop and should be enjoyable for all ages.  Since this is a Spring hike be prepared for wet conditions on the trail (hopefully not though!).  Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leash.

We are excited to have Dr. Geoffrey Simmins joining to offer communion at a rest stop along the trail. For those wishing to unwind after our hike feel free to pack a lunch and meet up in the parking area afterwards. Please RSVP to lucy_aburto@shaw.ca so we have an idea of numbers attending.

We hope you will Save the Date for our Annual Family Camping weekend August 26 - 28.

We hope you will Save the Date for our Annual Family Camping weekend August 26 - 28.

This year we will be camping at River Cove Group Campground.  The campsite is located close to Bragg Creek and is very convenient for those wishing to join us just for the day!  Day trippers are invited to bring a picnic lunch and/or dinner and stay for games and a hike. Campers are responsible for their own food and drink.  Cost for each family is $75.00.  Firewood is provided.  All ages and camping experience is welcome!  Please contact Craig Murray at murraycraigjohn@gmail.com to book your spot!

We are so grateful to Bill Judd and Ken Burrill for their leadership these past months on our ‘Words of Life’ Bible study of the 10 Commandments

We are so grateful to Bill Judd and Ken Burrill for their leadership these past months on our ‘Words of Life’ Bible study of the 10 Commandments

Those who have participated in any study know how much extra time and effort leaders spend preparing each week.  Bill and Ken have been faithful leaders in many of our study groups, and the number of people participating in their classes has grown due to the ‘dynamic duo’s’ thoughtful preparation and ability to engage group members in conversation.  Our knowledge has grown, as have our friendships with the other participants in the studies.  Thank you for providing opportunities for both!!

Join us online to reflect how we can breathe life, prayer and spirit into land ackowledgements

May 3rd and 5th 2022

KAIROS welcomes you to attend two online workshops created and presented by Dr Rose Roberts (PhD) and Dr Stryker Calvez (PhD), Cree and Métis experts who have presented land acknowledgement workshops at the University of Saskatchewan for many years. These workshops are designed to help people personalize their land acknowledgments to make them meaningful.  This online series invites participants to reflect and act on the role and meaning of land acknowledgements in our personal lives and in our faith communities. In the workshops you will connect with others to consider our relationships with place, land, people and spirit, and to learn how to make our land acknowledgments authentic and genuine.
Each workshop will be 1.5 hours and requires your active participation as well as a personal commitment of approximately 2-3 hours of homework for learning and self-reflection prior to the first event.

Registration deadline: April 30th.  We hope to see you there!
