The goal of the Welcome and Fellowship team is to foster a welcoming environment for visitors to St. Andrew’s and to provide opportunities for increased fellowship within our church family. Our team grew out of two earlier Session teams --- Congregational Life and Invitation and Welcome --- which merged several years ago.

Fellowship events in recent years have included: pick-up ball hockey in the parking lot, movie nights, bowling outings and annual potluck suppers with themes such as the Olympics, Tropical Vacation, Grey Cup, and the “Fabulous 50’s to the Sensational 70’s”. An Easter egg hunt for the children and a congregational picnic are other annual events, the major one being the Stampede Breakfast in July, where we serve pancakes and sausages to a perennially large crowd.

Included in our service for newcomers and guests has been an annual pizza social, hot apple cider for visitors at the Bazaar, and a thank-you lunch for our greeters and welcome desk volunteers. We periodically update brochures for distribution to visitors and, in past years, have coordinated the production of the congregational photo-directory and produced St. Andrew’s logo coffee mugs. We also reach out to the community by erecting the Easter crosses on the front lawn each year and by setting up the manger and angels before the start of Advent.

The Easter crosses, manger and angels were built by a skilled team of volunteers within our congregation. One of the easiest ways to participate in both fellowship and welcome is to volunteer as coffee hosts after Sunday worship. It’s a great way to get to know other members of our church family and to give back to the congregation, so, if you haven’t already done so, please consider registering at the sign-up centre to host coffee on an upcoming Sunday. It is easy to do, and you will find it to be a rewarding experience.
