Growing Life Together with God

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
LinX Email for January 7, 2026
Jan 11, 2026 - Adoption through Baptism

Jan 11, 2026 - Adoption through Baptism

Rev. Laurie McKay

Today we remember that Jesus was baptized and calls us to baptise.  Baptism is a way to connect with God, with a clean spirit.  The Spirit that comes on us in baptism, refreshes us daily.  Christian community reminds us that we cannot practice faith on our own.  Today we welcome people into this community through baptism and profession of faith.  Together we are part of God’s family of Justice and Compassion.

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

And what a Christmas it was! St. Andrew’s, as usual, responded. The problem with listing things is that someone might be missed. So to anyone who contributed something that isn’t in the following list, please know that God saw your contribution and values you and your work! We do too!!
We are grateful to everyone who contributed in big and small ways to our efforts to ‘bring Christmas’ to St. Andrew’s and the neighbours around us. Thank you for helping put up and take down the Christmas angels display; for beautifully decorating our Sanctuary, foyer, and spaces throughout the building that enhanced our enjoyment of the season; to those who responded to the call for extra greeters, ushers, coffee makers, shepherds; to those who said ‘yes’ to be Advent readers, participants in special services, advent crafting, sorting toys at Salvation Army; ‘music, music, music’ ~ in all its many forms; for your financial support to the many opportunities to ‘provide Christmas’ to those who found themselves in need at this time of year - gifts of baby items, stockings filled to the brim for our homebound members, providing food bank items for the Veteran’s Food Bank; gift cards to Claire House and the Aboriginal Friendship Center; providing mittens, socks, gloves to neighbours in need; to those who prayed for our ministers throughout the season as they added on more and more to an already ‘loaded workload’.
The ministers and staff are thankful for each and every one of you who support the work and witness of this congregation.
We are - indeed - blessed!
~ Debby

Office Staff - Who does what?!?

Office Staff - Who does what?!?

We thought you may all like to know who to reach out to for specific things now that we’ve completed our ‘office staff restructuring’.
We can’t possibly list everything everyone does,
but here is a quick ‘top 3’ (or 4):

Solange (works Monday-Thursday, 9:00 - 2:30):

  1. Books Rooms for meetings/events - for our teams, and for outside groups
  2. Books meetings for Rev. Laurie
  3. Responds to office@standrewscalgary.ca emails
  4. Books zoom meetings for teams/groups

Dolly (works Monday-Thursday, 9:00 - 4:00):

  1. Looks after ALL THINGS financial
  2. Receives pastoral care information about our people, and passes that information on to the ministers and Care Connectors
  3. Updates PowerChurch, which stores all of our ‘congregation information’ (like addresses and telephone numbers)

Debby (works Tuesday & Wednesday, 9:00 - 4:30):

  1. ALL THINGS LinX  (receives information, writes articles, works with Kevin & Barbara MacFarlane on getting out weekly emails to those who have signed up to receive them)
  2. Maintains/updates our Ministers’ and staff shared Worship Document, and creates a Sunday service document for the Ministers, choir, sound board people, ushers, and participants in the service
  3. Updates the electronic sign (starting Jan 2026)

Please know that we are ALL willing to take whatever requests come our way and make sure they get to the right person - we know transitions take time… and that it will take ‘we Presbyterians’  time to get used to CHANGE!!!   :)
~ Deb, Dolly & Solange

Sudanese Feast - January 25th

Sudanese Feast - January 25th

For over 25 years, the South Sudanese congregation has been worshiping in the afternoons each Sunday at St. Andrew's.  There are now approximately 80-90 people who gather.  They worship primarily in Nuer at 1:30 pm.  If you would like to experience African worship, you are always welcome!  Once a year, the congregation sponsors a feast to share with the morning congregation at St. Andrew's.  The feast planned for January 18th has been postponed to January 25 starting at 3:00.  You don't need to travel to Africa to get a taste of their culture, their food, and their warm hospitality.  Please join us for either worship at 1:30 in the Sanctuary,  or just the Feast on January 25 at 3:00 pm in Trinity Hall.

Who is it that you seek?

Who is it that you seek?

As we move deeper into the season of light announced by Epiphany, it is good to ask ourselves this question. In our community of faith, many of us will answer, “We seek the Lord our God.” The Northumbria Community is a community of faithful seekers, based in the UK and graced with friends and followers around the world. Their daily prayers provide a reliable guide for those who seek the living God.
